Jigsaw

People often ask me what I specialize in and I used to find that a really hard question to answer. My experiences in counselling cover a wide variety of issues as I have worked in different environments within diverse organizations, so to choose a single ‘specialty’ for me was very difficult but time and time again the question would be asked.

Finally  after much thought and deliberation it suddenly came to me ‘Loss’ the word that kept appearing in everything I do.

I have always been interested in people and their stories and I know from experience the pain of loss, not just from bereavement for a loved one but also loss of direction in life, loss of self-worth of not belonging or fitting in, loss of purpose, of importance of your role in life or loss of control.

Life is a complex thing and unique to every one of us, its what makes us the individuals we are and makes all our life stories so special. We are emotional animals, it’s the one thing that sets us apart, makes us special but can also be easily disrupted, throw our jigsaw into chaos when life events happen.

Life events such as loss of a loved one, a partner, friend, companion, not just through bereavement but relationship breakdowns. Loss of employment, retirement, redundancy or children flying the nest are  all things that can cause us to lose our sense of purpose and direction in life, a feeling of being ‘stuck’ of going nowhere causing us to feel ‘out of control’ of our life.

This can feel overwhelming and frustrating a jumbled jigsaw, a box full of pieces that we can’t put together making us feel distressed and anxious sometimes affecting our sleep and our everyday function.

I suppose I see myself as someone who helps you solve your puzzle, talking things through helping you to find your missing jigsaw pieces and fit them back into place. As a counsellor that’s how I see my role as someone who listens with acceptance and kindness to your unique story, helping you to find the right pieces to make the picture on the box lid.

I’m always here…………

My history

My journey into counselling started about 5 years ago during the first lockdown. As a qualified Dance and Movement Coach within the private and public sector all my work ceased and my working life was put on hold.

So like many others I started to look for various courses online in order to enhance my development within my skill set and to gain new ones. I came across the Level 2 online course and thought I would give it a try and that was where my journey started.

I had always been told by friends and family that I was a good listener but this course opened my eyes to so much more. This was something that instantly resonated with me from the very start. The more I studied the Humanistic Person-Centred approach to counselling, the Core conditions and its philosophy I knew it was the way forward for me. My journey of self discovery was life changing for me, gave me a greater understanding of myself and of traumatic  past events in my life. It also instilled in me a desire to help others achieve the same empowerment and growth as I did.

I've always been interested in people and have an innate desire to help others find their own paths and answers. I do believe that everyone deserves to have someone who will listen to them, someone who will accept them as they are without any conditions or agenda and show them respect, empathy and honesty.

My journey into counselling started quite by chance, a road to follow, bringing me to where I am today with a new passion in my life. Your journey can start right here................
